I have to say that I am surprised at the 5 star ratings for what feels like a very average read. There is nothing particularly surprising or interesting about the plot."I just didn’t want to wait one stupid week for you to contact him and make arrangements. I should have been patient. This is my fault.” Yup.
The characters are not compelling and the dialogue is flat.
“Listen buddy, you need to drink. My blood will help you and you need your strength so we can get you out of here.”
"One of your father’s packmates is doing some magic on his computer right now.” Ha! The MAGIC involved tracking down the owner of a cell phone and finding out where he worked!
"The dark-haired male looked almost offended, but he was a stranger so it was hard to tell." What? You can't understand someone's expression unless you know them?
"She was going crazy not knowing where Vega was. Where had she been taken? Or gone to?" Holy redundant, Batman!
I have enjoyed Katie Reus' other books, but this was really a snooze fest.

A story of a wolf-shifter and a vampire, a pair of natural enemy yet they fell in love with each other. Lyra and Finn met 17 years ago, fell in love and had a blazing affair, but circumstances pushed them apart. Fast forward 17 years, they met again when Lyra asked Finn to find her (their) daughter that had been kidnapped. Story unfold from there.
This is Katie Reus' first book that I read. It's been sometimes since I read a paranormal one, and I like more about this one because it contained mystery and suspense as well, not pure romance (I'm a romance-suspense junkie). The mystery part was quite intriguing. We got a bit clue here and there but kept guessing on who the culprit was (or were) until we being told. The 'why' come up first. The romance also great, the characters had depth, I felt them and although sometimes I wanted to slap them, I still invested in them.
I definitely will read her other books in this series as well as try her other series, especially those romance-suspense (without paranormal aspect) ones.
The first installment of Katie Reus' Darkness series is HOT. It starts with a bang and keeps going from there. Reus has created a world of shifters, vampires, demons and everything in between. Her characters are easy to identify with and complex.
You start with meeting Finn, and wow is he yummy. He's the Alpha of Stravos pack and meet him in the middle of killing demons. As the story unfolds, you meet more and more of the pack, including his Guardian, Gabriel, and the healer, Victoria. Enter Lyra. She's strong and independent, but still needs help finding her kidnapped daughter, Vega. Oh, but she's keeping secrets that could destroy the strong bong reconnecting between her and Finn.
The action is non-stop, the plot moves forward and the characters are amazing. You need to add this to your TBR list if you haven't already!
As a fan of all wolves and vampire books I looked forward th finding an author O had not read. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel and it was different in a good way. I will put Katie on my list of wolves/camps and continue to follow this series. Kept my attention and it was over before I knew it and crave more on the characters in the novel. If you are looking
for something the same but different you have to read Darkness Awakened. I am looking forward to the journey with Katie Reus

I've had this audiobook on my iPod forever...seriously, why haven't I listened to it before now? It was so, so good. This was one of those audiobooks where I was looking for chores to do in my house, so I could keep listening to it (I listen to audiobooks while I do the drudgery of housework).
So, this book isn't the longest, but it's completely entertaining and engrossing from the very first word. Lyra's 16 yo daughter has been kidnapped. She goes to the one man who she knows will be able to help...her former lover, Finn.
For both Finn and Lyra, there's never been anyone but the other for them. It was just a cruel twist of circumstances that meant they couldn't stay together back then, but their joining so long ago set highly unusual set of circumstances into motion. Now they are trying to pull all the threads back in after they begin to unravel.
The story is so, so good. And the twists at the end with the new stranger, Drake...was just the icing on top of the already delicious cake. I loved every moment of reading this book and can't wait to inhale the rest of the series. I'm just sad that it's not all out on audiobook, because it was fabulous to listen to.
